Following the conclusions of the daily news Telegraph,'Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), un UK's advertising watchdog has launched a survey on promoting vaping within the Instagram social network.
The Advertising Standards Authority has confirmed that it is currently reviewing three publications that may have targeted a minor audience. The organization is also examining the involvement of promotional messages to find out whether they relate to vaping and, if so, whether they are allowed to be published on social networks.
The move comes a month after the Telegraph revealed the existence of a campaign to promote vape products with cartoons to children (visible from the age of 13 according to the messages suggested on Instagram). As a reminder, since 2016, it is illegal to sell e-cigarettes to people under the age of 18 in the UK.
The survey also reveals that certain shops and companies specializing in vaping use young “influencers” on Instagram to offer promotional publications. These promotions were not official Instagram ads, but sponsored posts that also fall under advertising regulations.
The ASA rules state that the persons appearing in e-cigarette advertisements " must not have or appear to be less than 25 years". An ASA spokesperson said: " We have launched official surveys on each of the advertisements. We will publish our conclusions in due course. »
