HEALTH: For Dr Joël Bousquet, "the toxicity of e-cigarettes is probable and still remains to be evaluated"

Following the catastrophic episode of the WHO report, many doctors and health specialists have spoken out. This is the case of Dr JOel Bousquet, doctor at the Center for support and prevention of addiction treatment in Gap who thinks that " we do not have enough perspective to determine the long-term consequences "

"A NEGATIVE IMPACT STILL DIFFICULT TO IDENTIFY"

The 26 last July, l'World Health Organization (WHO) sounded the alarm bells in its World Tobacco Report by calling e-cigarettes "unquestionably harmful".

« Since the appearance of the electronic cigarette on the market, it is doubtful that the products inhaled are probably not as innocent as what could be announced. But we were convinced that this harm was less compared to smoking. The toxicity of the products is probable and remains to be evaluated. We still have not got enough perspective to determine the long-term consequences, valued Joel Bousquet, a doctor at the Accompaniment and Prevention Center in Addictology in Gap.

The negative impact is still difficult to identify because the studies carried out by the experts diverge. But e-cigarettes remain an alternative, among others, to stopping smoking. It is considered to be the most effective (to other nicotine substitutes: patch, lozenge, chewing gum, etc.) by a team of British researchers in the New England Journal of Medicine (published in January 2019). Time and future research will tell us. »
