In a press release dated May 29, 2017, the SOVAPE association reminds that May 31 will be World No Tobacco Day. Everything should be done on that day to help smokers quit smoking. However, since May 20, 2016, encouraging one of the best solutions for them has become totally illegal.
SOVAPE COMMUNIQUE: STOP THE CENSURE ON THE VAPE!
France has transposed the European Directive on tobacco products with much more severity than what the text imposed, including for electronic cigarettes. Apart from restrictions on advertising with a cross-border effect, nothing obliged the French government to ban any advertising, as a direct ou indirect and even less "Propaganda". Thus the vape is found at the same level as tobacco. Prohibition to promote it on pain of a fine of 100 000 €.
Today, no study is likely to justify any ban in terms of public health. The arguments put forward by the opponents fall one after the other. Where the electronic cigarette is growing, smoking is declining.
For many years, vapers have been protesting restrictive laws. Beyond advertising, many measures force the practice of the vape and cause price increases of the products. The banning of any communication slows down its growth and reduces the chances of attracting even more smokers, to save even more lives. Informing smokers about good practices, as well as the profusion of materials and liquids, is paramount.
The deep reasons for this totally unfounded censorship interview many specialists. This invention does not come:
- nor health authorities
- nor the pharmaceutical industry
- nor the tobacco industry
- and it is not taxed at 400%.
Is this why, today in France, the law prohibits its promotion?
On the occasion of the day without tobacco 2017, SOVAPE wishes that the new Minister of health, Agnès BUZYN, sends a signal to the attention of the vapers and the specialists who constantly claim, in front of the manifest insufficiency of the Plan National Tobacco Reduction, the implementation of a real tobacco control policy that fully integrates the reduction of risks, and therefore the vape.
