SWITZERLAND: "The tobacco empire strikes back", a report on vaping and heated tobacco

Faced with the growing success of the e-cigarette, the tobacco industry is positioning itself. With IQOS, Glo, Ploom, etc. tobacco companies have found a way to sell both tobacco and electronic devices. But what about health? The program "36.9 °" of the Swiss channel RTS investigated the subject to find out more about vaping, heated tobacco and the intentions of tobacco companies.

What is heated tobacco? Can it be compared to vaping? Is it less toxic to health than a normal cigarette? Does it also contain carcinogens? Element of response with this report from the program " 36.9° ”from the Swiss channel RTS by Isabelle Moncada and Jochen Bechler.

“Even if it is still in the minority, the vapoteuse treads on the feet of tobacco companies. Its interest is to dispense nicotine without carcinogens, because it is the combustion of tobacco that kills, not nicotine. While borrowing its codes and nibbling its market share, the tobacco empire strikes back: in 2015, Philipp Morris launched a new concept, heated tobacco. He baptizes it IQOS which means “I quit ordinary smoking, I quit ordinary smoke”. This special cigarette is pushed against a miniaturized resistance which will heat the tobacco. At British American Tobacco the device was called GLO and that of Japan Tobacco PLOOMtech. It looks like vapers, but they are not vapers… "
