Alliance against tobacco chaired by the member for Gironde Michèle Delaunay calls on health professionals to fight against smoking. This movement which bears the name of100 000 call was born from a discussion between Michèle Delaunay and Jean Deleuze on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Evin law (1991).
A CALL TO FIGHT TOBACCO!
To present “The call of 100”, Michéle Delaunay and Jean Deleuze declared: “ Noting the incredible health and financial hecatomb that smoking still constitutes, they imagined the strength that will represent a massive mobilization of all health professionals to sign this appeal and thus mark their resolute opposition to what is perpetuated by the greatest known public health scandal". If for the moment, only 1376 health professionals have signed this appeal, Alliance against tobacco expects the title of the operation to be at least 100 signatures as announced.
WHAT COMMITMENTS FOR HEALTH PROFESSIONALS?
We health professionals, noting the health disaster caused by tobacco :
- 78.000 deaths per year in France, 220 deaths per day (1.200.000 deaths since the year 2000).
- A smoker on 2 dies prematurely of the consequences of smoking.
- A smoker lives on average 15 years less than a non-smoker.
- The disaster is also financial: the only health cost of smoking is estimated at 25,9 billion euros per year, or 3 times the deficit of Social Security (and "reports" only 14 billion euros in taxes).
We health professionals are committed to :
- Recall with each of our patients his smoking.
- Target users for their ad campaigns as a priority to alert them to the dangers of smoking: young people, pregnant women, people
fragile or in difficulty. - Promote methods or products that promote the treatment of tobacco dependence and to register in the
dynamic of the operation Moi (s) without tobacco with its many tools. - To not let a smoker leave us without proper advice or handing over a written document or without guiding it
to his attending physician (and if we are the attending physician, to continue to motivate and engage him in a
weaning approach adapted to his case: reinforced monitoring, prescription, use of a tobacco specialist ...). - Call back parents the need to protect their children by quitting smoking.
We health professionals, ask all politicians, elected and future elected representatives of :
- Enforce actually the Evin law and the ban on the sale of tobacco to minors.
- Use the most effective measure against smoking, the sharp rise in prices, to reach the price of 10 €
per pack of cigarettes, and a significant rise in the cost of rolling tobacco. - To break up at all levels with clientelism and tobacco lobbies for the benefit of public health and
citizens. - Affect part of tobacco tax revenue to the long-term contribution of a prevention fund dedicated to
achievement of the objectives of Tobacco Reduction described in the National Program (PNRT). - Assume and display the goal of a significant decrease in smoking prevalence to reach in 10 years less
10% of smokers in France. - To make possible group action against tobacco companies for tobacco victims and their families in order to
do not leave them without the help of justice against the tobacco giants.
