TOBACCO: In Zimbabwe, tobacco work poisons children!

Tobacco kills and this is not really new! But what is less known is that in Zimbabwe, work in the tobacco sector threatens the health of children.

HEALTH HAZARDS AND VIOLATION OF LABOR LAW!

In a report published by Human Rights Watchchildren and adults working in tobacco plantations are exposed to serious health risks and violations of the labor law.

The organization has sounded the alarm for the Zimbabwean government to take drastic measures to protect tobacco workers. Exposed to toxic pesticides and nicotine, many of these children suffer from symptoms of tobacco leaf poisoning.

This bleak picture of child labor and other human rights violations tarnishes the tobacco industry's contribution to the country's economic growth.

In 2014, Human Rights Watch has drawn parallels with the working conditions prevailing in tobacco plantations in other countries, including the United States, and now calls on governments to take action.
