The pulmonologist Corinne Depagne filed a complaint against the Lycée Saint-Exupéry in Lyon (Rhône) for non-compliance with the Evin law. Indeed, state of emergency and risk of attacks oblige, the pupils of the establishment were authorized by their principal to smoke in the courtyard rather than creating a crowd on the sidewalk.
A second complaint also targets the rectorate, while three other high schools in Ile-de-France will soon be the subject of an appeal before the administrative court, launched by the Rights of non-smokers, an association for the protection against smoking. Because the phenomenon is spreading. The authorization of tobacco in the walls of high schools would have been granted by more than half of schools in the country, according to Alliance against tobacco.
Smoking areas in high schools ?
Quoted by RTL, Corinne Depagne denounces the absurdity of the situation: « We prevent our children from being killed in front of high schools and we let them be slowly killed inside? It's impossible. » The Ministry of Health, for its part, has informed school officials that they are facing penalties by letting their students smoke in the courtyard.
But the principals, they believe that it is their duty to protect the high school students for which they are responsible. The solution could come from smoking areas in high schools during the state of emergency, already proposed by the National Union of National Education Management Staff (SNPDEN). The Ministries of National Education and the Interior, however, announced that they were considering sanctions against schools wishing to set up such zones.
