TOBACCO: For Professor Dautzenberg, tobacco is becoming obsolete for young people!

In 2018, for the third consecutive year, tobacco sales in France fell. For the occasion, France Inter received Pr Bertrand Dautzenberg pulmonologist and tobacco specialist at the Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital.

« AT THE YOUNG, TOBACCO BECOMES A RINGARD«

Cigarettes have fewer followers in France. Sales fell sharply in 2018, with a 9,32% decline. That's 4 billion fewer cigarettes, and this applies to all forms of tobacco (in total 40 billion cigarettes are sold.)

The pulmonologist Bertrand Dautzenberg welcomes the health plan put in place, in particular with the increase in the price of the package, which is bearing fruit.

This is a significant drop. We had already experienced this with the first cancer plan under Chirac in 2002-2003. It was even more since we had gone from 82 billion cigarettes sold to 54 billion.

Neutral package, electronic cigarette, refund of nicotine substitutes also explain this decline.

The current measures are good if the decline continues to be around 10% estimates the tobacco specialist.

People who have no money don't know how much they are spending. It's a drug and they don't realize. This is why it is really important to help these people.

By 2020, the package will reach € 10, which is a hope for Bertrand Dautzenberg. The hope that the French will stop smoking altogether.

He also notes that tobacco has become obsolete in young people. Unlike chicha and cannabis. The electronic cigarette is used but most young people who take the electronic cigarette take it without nicotine.

For the boss of tobacconists, the French do not smoke less. They buy their cigarettes abroad or on the black market. According to Bertrand Dautzenberg, we have had the same rates of purchase of cigarettes abroad since 2003-2004. On the other hand, for him, the black market is not so promising. We can see that we smoke more in the north-eastern regions (proximity to Belgium, and especially Luxembourg), in the departments bordering Spain, as well as in Corsica where lung cancers are 30% more numerous. .
