TECH: A start-up launches DitchPen, a nicotine dosage control system

To quit smoking, the electronic cigarette works perfectly! However, this does not convince some people who launch a new product through a start-up to quit smoking and control the dosage of nicotine: DitchPen. If in France we already know Enovap in this niche, in Canada, the new start-up Ditch Labs plans to curb tobacco addiction thanks to artificial intelligence and its unique device in the world.

DO BETTER THAN THAN VAPING ADDICTION?

« The problem is, vaping has replaced traditional cigarettes., Explain Laurent Laferriere, CEO and co-founder of the company founded last year. But the electronic cigarette is not designed to quit smoking. The addiction persists. ».

It is in this perspective that appeared DitchPen, an electronic cigarette-like vaporizer that controls the dosage of nicotine to gradually reduce it over time. With this product, we find an application that provides solutions in real time if the user needs too much nicotine. With DitchPen, the Montreal start-up wants to eradicate smoking addiction thanks to artificial intelligence and its unique device in the world.

« There is no solution on the market that addresses the psychological and physiological interaction. On the other hand, our device, which is linked to an application with algorithms, can detect “cravings”. We can thus warn the smoker that their consumption is on the rise. The device can even deliver placebo inhalations, without nicotine. »Declares the CEO.

In the event of an abnormal increase in nicotine consumption with the device, the application will alert the user and may even recommend solutions such as breathing exercises, in order to control his cravings. He can also inform him about his consumption: does he smoke when he is bored, when he is stressed ...

To develop its technology and obtain the necessary state approvals, Ditch Labs just raised $ 1,3 million in a first round of funding. Shamelessly, Laurent Laferriere declares " We are doing what many electronic cigarette companies could have done if they had really wanted to fight nicotine addiction, adds the boss of the start-up. The ultimate goal is to stop smoking and vaping.  ».
