SUMMIT OF THE VAPE: Politicians decline invitation to event.

SUMMIT OF THE VAPE: Politicians decline invitation to event.

A few days before the 2nd Summit of the Vape, the association Sovape makes in an official press release, the point on the participations. The program being consolidated, here is an update on the participants / organizations who have confirmed their presence and absences.

The association SOVAPE and the partners of the 2e Summit of the vape wish to make a point a few days before the event. Many invitations were issued to all stakeholders to create a productive and constructive dialogue on the vape and its potential for reducing the scourge of smoking in France: 34% of smokers.

Confirmed participations

We thank the Professor Benoît VALLET, Director General of Health, who keeps his promise given in 2016 at the first Summit. He will take part in the latest public health policy debate and offer a perspective in the context of the conclusion to be reached by Didier JAYLE et Bertrand DAUTZENBERG.

We thank the Dr. Nicolas PRISSE, new president of the MILDECA, who, just appointed to his post, accepted the invitation of Jacques LE HOUEZEC. He will open the Summit and will do his best to attend the whole day.

We thank international specialists Ricardo POLOSA et Jean-François ETTER which will bring many insights into the state of science and knowledge about the vape, in absolute terms and with regard to the damage of tobacco.

We thank all the representatives of the learned societies, health authorities, associations and representatives of civil society who accepted the invitation by offering presentations and / or to participate in the round tables: Jean-Pierre COUTERON, Antoine DEUTSCH, William LOWENSTEIN, Anne BORGNE, Pierre ROUZAUD, Gérard AUDUREAU, Daniel THOMAS, François BECK, Gérard DUBOIS, Brice LEPOUTRE, Rémi PAROLA, Jean MOIROUD, Astrid FONTAINE, Stéphane PAPATHEODOROU, Nathalie NAVARRO, Françoise GAUDEL.

We thank the journalists Jean-Yves NAU, Aurélie KIEFFER et Ghislain ARMAND who will lead the debate alongside the members of SOVAPE.

Invitations declined

We deeply regret the absence of representatives of organizations and public health authorities: HAS, HCSP et PUBLIC HEALTH FRANCE. These absences are harmful to the dialogue and the understanding of the issues for public opinion. Unfortunately, they contribute to a hazy speech for the general public, especially smokers and health professionals.

We also regret the absence of theANSES, authority responsible for collecting and managing notifications of vaping products. This organization is at the heart of a regulation that has just been put in place, it is incomprehensible.

The absence of TOBACCO INFO SERVICE is also very unfortunate because its advisers are on the front line with smokers. The refusal to participate is all the more unexpected as SOVAPE accompanied by AIDUCE and FIVAPE, sent a letter to Santé Publique France at the beginning of the year to report totally unacceptable and false positions about the vape by the advisers of Tobacco Info Service. The requested corrections have not been made, and malicious and misleading claims on the vape are still ongoing. We interpret this absence of TABAC INFO SERVICE as a total denial of the problems and responsibilities of Public Health France vis-à-vis smokers.

We regret, of course, the absence of the Minister Marisol TOURAINE invited the 28 January by official letter signed by the three organizers Didier JAYLE, Bertrand DAUTZENBERG and Jacques LE HOUEZEC. This absence of the person in charge of a regulation widely disputed by the actors of the vape and the consumers is very badly lived. The minister did not bother to answer the mail, even to decline the invitation.

We finally regret the absence of Michèle DELAUNAY, president of theALLIANCE AGAINST TOBACCO. While she regularly criticizes the actors of the vape and the vapers on Twitter, the live dialogue does not seem to interest her. This absence is distressing in view of her regular allegations and responsibility in the fight against smoking.

Invitations of Presidential Candidates

The SOVAPE association invited several candidates to participate or at least to diligitate their health program managers. The mails were sent two weeks ago. See 2 release March 2017.

Nathalie ARTHAUD : declined the invitation by the voice of a member of his team by email.

François FILLON : a manager of his diary contacted us to decline the invitation for lack of availability. We insisted that the invitation be forwarded to health managers. No news to date.

Emmanuel MACRON : the invitation has been declined by email, but the spokesperson health Olivier VERAN auditioned for one hour Jacques LE HOUEZEC and Sébastien BÉZIAU, president and vice-president of SOVAPE.

Benoît HAMON : its health program manager, Alfred SPIRA, contacted us to apologize for not being able to attend, or any other member of the team.

The other invited candidates, Jean-Luc MÉLENCHON, Philippe POUTOU, Nicolas DUPONT-AIGNAN et Marine Le Pen did not give sign of life, despite the mail and several emails on the campaign sites.
