UNITED KINGDOM: Vaping is gradually replacing smoking among teenagers

When it comes to vaping, the UK has always been the example to follow. This seems to be confirmed with the latest statistics proposed by the National Health Service on teen vaping and smoking .

AN INCREASE IN YOUTH VAPING!

Recent data from National Health Service in the UK show a decrease in the number of teenagers currently smoking traditional cigarettes, but an increase in vaping, with 9% young people aged 11 to 15 who currently use e-cigarettes against 6% in 2018.

The 2021 report Smoking, Drinking and Drug Use Among Young People in England reports the results of a survey of 9 middle school students, mostly aged 289 to 11, between September 15 and February 2021, in 2022 schools. This survey focused on smoking, vaping and alcohol and other drug use among the young people surveyed.

The proportion of student vapers, on the other hand, rose from 6% in 2018, at 9% in 2021. More than one in five students (22%) reported having used vaping at least once, compared to 25% in 2018.

Current vaping use increases with age, from 1% in young people aged 11 to 11% among 14-year-olds and reaches 18% among 15 year olds. According to the study, more than a fifth (21%) of 15-year-old girls are considered current users of e-cigarettes, compared to 10% in 2021. This proportion is higher than that of boys of the same age: 14%.
