ACS: 95% of responses are associated with the e-cigarette!

For the American Cancer Society and their team on social media, it seemed like a great idea to launch this concept asking everyone to explain "how did they quit smoking?" ". Take a topic you know and ask a simple question, people are bound to respond. But as anyone who has social media experience knows, it's not always that easy. The message sounded innocent and asked " How did you quit smoking? Share your story. ". And that's when the storm started.

AAEAAQAAAAAAAAWxAAAAJDQ5MzVhYTgxLWNmOTgtNDI0OC05M2IyLTcxODJjOTAxNTNkOQAs you can see in the screenshot, the American Cancer Society  received a strong signal! 3384 comments, more than 1031 likes et 1460 shares on Facebook. Any social media aficionado would be happy to have scores like this on a post. So what is the problem?

Well, quite simply that those who have contributed mostly claim to have quit smoking thanks to the e-cigarette. According to my quick calculations, out of the 3000 messages there are about 95% which are associated with vaping and the concern is that The American Cancer Society maintained their position that they don't see e-cigarettes as a way to quit smoking. Well, yeah ! 3.000 people have all adhered to the same product, the e-cigarette and that is a very good thing. It's a safe bet that they did not expect this kind of story and although they did not take a neutral position, we can stress in their defense that they did not delete any comments!

Obviously, the anti-vaping defenders will take the opportunity to highlight some obvious facts, this post having the effect of " bombs On social networks among vapers. In fact, if you're part of a vape group, it will be hard to deny that this post has been spread thousands of times.

However, this aspect is really positive. From a sociological point of view, la vape has achieved what no anti-smoking group has been able to do for decades, that is to say to create a real community of dedicated and passionate people who all together try to stop tobacco consumption. These people are independent and do not belong to a professional organization, they found each other and simply bonded together on their own accord. And this is what frightens the most, when people stand together in large numbers to defend the same cause!

It will now be interesting to see if theAmerican Cancer Society will react to that and what response it will provide. Unfortunately I suspect that once again thousands of voices will be ignored. But remember that the more of us there are, the more difficult we will be to ignore..
