In Canada, the situation of vaping continues to be talked about even as several groups fighting against cancer, heart disease and addictions unite to fire red balls on the electronic cigarette industry.
PROOF OF THE DAMAGES OF VAPING?
Supported by brand new data from Statistics Canada, groups denounce the fact that vaping creates more new addicts than it helps ex-smokers to quit.
According to figures released on Monday, between 2017 and 2021, there was an increase of 48 former smokers who decided to turn to vapers. However, during the same period, 700 non-smokers succumbed to the charm of the flavors and marketing of the electronic cigarette industry.
La Quebec Coalition for Tobacco Control (CQCT) obtained data from the Canadian Community Health Survey, conducted by Statistics Canada, in which 7350 respondents from Quebec took part. It then entrusted the mandate to study the figures to the private firm Groupe d'Analyse.
This is how the CQCT was able to make another observation: since vaping products containing nicotine have been sold over the counter in the country, the proportion of Quebec non-smokers who use them has more than doubled.
According to the spokesperson for the CQCT, Flory Doucas, who spoke in a press release sent to The Canadian Press, these data clearly show that the commercialization of electronic cigarettes has caused more harm than benefit and [that] it is teenagers and young adults who are the big losers
.
For the pediatrician and clinician-researcher specializing in addiction and adolescent medicine Nicholas chadi, vaping is harmful to young people because of the presence of nicotine. According to him ban the vape " would be a particularly effective measure"
Suffice to say that the situation is far, very far from improving in Canada…
