More and more, the famous CBD (cannabidiol) is talking about him especially with regard to e-liquids. The use of products containing cannabidiol purchased on the Internet, outside the legal circuit, is more and more common in patients with certain forms of epilepsy. This practice worries ANSM (National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products) which encourages abstention, recalling the risks incurred.
ACCOMPANIED PRODUCTS « THERAPEUTIC ALLEGATIONS«
Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the major active compounds of cannabis. The ANSM calls on patients with epilepsy and parents of children with epilepsy to « do not use products containing and sold outside the legal circuit ». They put their health at risk because « the quality and safety [of these] products is not guaranteed, particularly as regards the actual amount of CBD, the possible presence of other active compounds of cannabis or other toxic products » says the agency.
Products containing CBD are sold « outside the legal system, especially on the Internet, in various forms, including oils, capsules, herbal teas or e-liquids for electronic cigarettes, while their sale is prohibited » specifies the ANSM. « These products may be accompanied by therapeutic claims, that is to say messages that associate with them a preventive or healing action, particularly in epilepsy. »
Admittedly, this substance may be of interest in the treatment of certain severe forms of epilepsy, but it “has psychoactive effects, […] potentially toxic for the liver and is liable to increase the concentrations in the body of certain drugs including anti-epileptics, with the risk of increasing their toxicityé ", continues the ANSM.
