Maryka Quik obtained her doctorate in biochemistry from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. After a postdoctoral fellowship with the Medical Research Council at the University of Cambridge in England, she joined the faculty of the Department of Pharmacology at McGill University as an assistant professor. She continued her research and teaching career as a full professor of pharmacology at McGill until 1996, when she joined the Parkinson Institute.
