POLITICS: “Free vaping”, a strategy of the tobacco industry?

For 10 years, many scientific experts and several associations defending electronic cigarettes have defended a simple principle: that of “free vaping”. Not really to the taste of many anti-tobacco and anti-vaping groups who, through the media, continue to denounce pure and simple manipulation of the tobacco industry.

“THE SAME BUSINESS, THAT OF NICOTINE”

In a recent article from our colleagues at Express, it is the principle of “Free Vaping” which is called into question and denounced on the eve of an important meeting of the World Health Organization.

Since the date of the event was announced last April, the concern has been palpable. Some “specialists” who until now dared to make too strong a link between the vaping and tobacco industry are now going so far as to denounce the notion of “free vaping” by attributing it to tobacco companies.

For the Prof. Loïc Josseran, president ofAlliance Against Tobacco (ACT) – the main anti-tobacco organization in France “ The two industries are distinct, they do not use the same distribution network – the tobacco industry favors tobacconists rather than vapostores – but they have common interests, they share the same business, that of nicotine »

However, for more than 10 years, numerous associations such as'Aiduce, the Fivape defend the very principle of “ free and independent vape“. Every opportunity seems good to undermine an effective risk reduction tool, in fact, the next WHO meeting in Panama in 2024 could result in new restrictive measures against tobacco and nicotine products.
