Overview of initiatives against vaping among young people in the United States

The United States, one of the largest tobacco producers in the world, faces what is commonly referred to as the “vaping epidemic” among young people.

There, various programs have been developed to help adolescents stop vaping, and hopefully not start smoking…

These programs approach vaping cessation in a youth-friendly way, using techniques that meet their specific needs.

One notable example is the Truth Initiative’s “This is Quitting” program, which uses text messages to support young people in their journey to quit vaping. This program provides practical advice and encouragement, shared by other young people who have tried to quit vaping themselves (Truth Initiative).

Another program is “My Life, My Quit,” which offers live coaching via phone or online chat, as well as automated texting to help young people overcome their nicotine addiction (Science News Explores).

In addition, the “NOT: Not On Tobacco” program, specially designed for adolescents, stands out for its comprehensive approach that integrates interactive learning strategies and encourages young people to voluntarily adopt healthier behaviors. (American Lung Association).

These programs are considered essential because they not only provide assistance in quitting vaping, but also contribute to a better understanding of the dangers of nicotine and vaping among young people, thereby promoting lasting changes in their behaviors.

Whoever acts too much like an angel ends up becoming a beast, said Pascal...let's hope that after stopping vaping, these young people don't turn to tobacco...the future will tell us, but it's true that Pascal was French .
