New work published in the newspaper Cancer Prevention Research would show that the use, even short and without nicotine, of the e-cigarette could contribute to an inflammation of the lungs, linked to the risk of cancer ...
A STUDY WHICH DOES NOT ALLOW TO PRESENT THE E-CIGARETTE AS "HARMFUL"!
American researchers at Ohio State University believe that e-cigarettes can cause inflammation in the lungs, even when used for a very short time and without nicotine or added flavors.
To reach this conclusion, the researchers distinguished two groups of people, 30 adults between the ages of 21 and 30, all non-smokers and in good health. The first group was then asked to vape for a month a liquid composed only of propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin, the two basic ingredients of e-cigarette bottles. They had to smoke this at least twice a day, each time taking 20 puffs in the space of an hour. The second group, called the control group, was to continue not to smoke.
After one month, the researchers, whose work is published in the newspaper Cancer Prevention Research, compared the lung cells of both groups. As a result, they found mild pulmonary inflammation for the group of new electronic cigarette smokers, while no difference was reported for the control group. American researchers therefore believe that the e-cigarette, even for short-term use and without nicotine or aromas, has consequences on the lung health of its users.
« The general perception of the public is that e-cigarettes are safer than cigarettes“, Explains Peter Shields. " In fact, the industry is evolving so rapidly that its use exceeds the pace of our scientific knowledge. Electronic cigarettes may be safer than smoking, but that does not mean there is no danger"
