After signing a law prohibiting the use of the e-cigarette where smoking is already prohibited in October 2017, the Governor of the State of New York, Andrew Cuomo once again wants to tackle vaping by imposing a tax on e-liquids.
10 CTS PER ML TO HELP FACE PUBLIC DEFICIT!
In his annual budget speech last Tuesday, the Governor Andrew Cuomo said New York state should take measures to increase revenue to meet a $ 4 billion deficit in the coming fiscal year.
Unfortunately, the vaping market could once again be impacted by this political decision. Indeed, Governor Cuomo's budget plan calls for a tax of 10 cents per milliliter on e-liquids, which he says would put vaping on a par with traditional tobacco products. This tax would be paid by distributors of vaping products.
This is the second year in a row that Governor Cuomo has attempted to impose a tax on vaping, last year he had failed following the refusal of the Republicans in the Senate
If this choice is approved, the Governor's office expects to bring in nearly $ 3 million in tax revenue with vaping during the coming fiscal year and almost $ 5 million in the years to come.
