CANADA: Teenagers are twice as likely to become smokers.

In Canada, a study from the University of Waterloo in Ontario shows that teens who begin to smoke during high school are twice as likely as others to ever smoke.

A RISK TWICE AS IMPORTANT ACCORDING TO THE STUDY!

In a statement, the researchers said they wondered whether electronic cigarettes, sold to encourage cigarette smokers to turn to a less harmful option, could have the opposite effect. However, they discovered that Canadian teens are 2,16 times more likely to smoke after testing vaping.

Like the traditional cigarettes, the liquids used in electronic cigarettes contain nicotine, but without the toxic products associated with tobacco, such as tar and carbon monoxide.

«Our study supports measures restricting access to e-cigarettes for minors who are more at risk of smokingSaid the study's author, Dr. Bruce Baskerville, who specializes in tobacco control research.

To achieve its results, the researchers relied on data collected through the Canadian Tobacco, Alcohol and Drug Survey among students. According to this survey, about 13% of Canadians smoked 2015, including 9,7% of 15 teens at 19.

According to Health Canada, more than 37 000 Canadians die each year because of smoking, whether they were smokers or simply exposed to second-hand smoke. It is the single largest preventable cause of premature death in the country, far ahead of traffic accidents, suicides or alcohol abuse.
