USA: Anti-vaping sensors at a school in New York.

While the FDA just launched a campaign against the use of electronic cigarettes by minors, the administrators of a school in New York seem to want to set the bar even higher by imposing sensors capable of detecting steam in bathrooms.

A PILOT PROGRAM TO DETECT THE USE OF E-CIGARETTE!

Following a growing number of students vaping in New York schools, the administrators of a New York establishment have decided to set up a pilot program to fight against a growing phenomenon. For this, sensors that can detect e-cigarette vapor have been installed in the school's toilets.

Edward Salina, superintendent of Plainedge Public Schools in New York, told ABC News that the institution was involved in a pilot program to Fly Sense, a sensor system that warns school officials in the event of unwanted vaping.

«The sensor in question is capable of detecting steam. When this is the case, it triggers an alarm which is sent to an administrator who goes to the sanitary concerned to see what is happening.", did he declare.

Fly Sense, which is also capable of detecting tobacco smoke, can be placed where cameras are not allowed, such as in washrooms or locker rooms. According to Edward Salina, the school also has cameras located outside the toilets in order to be able to film the students when entering and leaving.

« We are a very technologically advanced school district, so we look for technologies that can be installed in areas where cameras are prohibited »He declares.

While there is some skepticism that the sensing system can make a difference in student behavior, administrators hope the sensors can act as a deterrent.
