UNITED KINGDOM: The use of e-cigarettes on the rise!

In the UK, vaping is going well! According to the latest data available, the use of e-cigarettes continues to increase in the country. In 2018, 6,3% of adults were active users.


IN 7 YEARS, THERE ARE 1,8 MILLION LESS SMOKERS


According to The Statistics on Smoking, England - 2019, published by the NHS, there are now 1,8 million fewer adult smokers in England than there were seven years ago. Figures show that 5,9 million people smoked cigarettes in 2018, up from 7,7 million in 2011.

The prevalence of adult smokers in the UK was 14,7%. England had the lowest prevalence of adult smokers at 14,4%, while Scotland had the highest at 16,3%, followed by 15,9% in Wales and 15,5% in Ireland North.

The increase in e-cigarette consumption was 5,5% in 2017, compared to only 3,7% in 2014. Adults aged 35 to 49 were the most likely to using electronic cigarettes (8,1%), while adults aged 60 and over were significantly less (4,1%). The main reason adults used e-cigarettes was to help quit smoking (51%).

In 2018-2019, the number of items distributed to help quit smoking in England stood at 740, up from a peak of 000 million in 2,56-2010. The number of deaths attributable to smoking was around 2011 in 77, which is similar to 800 in 2017. However, the death rate has now decreased by 6% compared to 2007.

The report also contains information on local analyzes, use of NHS services to quit smoking, attitudes of young people about tobacco, and spending on tobacco by households.
