A few days ago, the Assistance publique - Hôpitaux de Paris declared that it had launched a national study on the e-cigarette named ECSMOKE. Today, this study is still looking for volunteers to evaluate e-cigarettes as an aid to smoking cessation.
HOW TO JOIN THE ECSMOKE STUDY?
AP-HP launches national study " ECSMOKE »In 11 hospitals and a dispensary to evaluate and compare the effectiveness of the e-cigarette compared to a drug as an aid to smoking cessation.
To conduct this study, she is looking for a minimum of 650 people
- smoking at least 10 cigarettes a day
- aged from 18 to 70 years
- wishing to stop smoking.
The participants of the ECSMOKE study will be followed during 6 months after stopping smoking in one of the 12 partner centers of the study located in Angers, Caen, Clamart, Clermont-Ferrand, La Rochelle, Lille, Lyon, Nancy, Nîmes , Paris (Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital, coordinating center of the study), Poitiers, and Villejuif.
Specialists in smoking cessation will take care of each participating smoker by providing them free of charge:
- a personal electronic cigarette with adjustable power and specific liquids tobacco blond (either with 12 mg / ml nicotine or without nicotine)
- varenicline tablets, an active smoking cessation aid, or the placebo version.
Support will also include tips for stopping. Smoking cessation should occur in 7 15 days after the start of the study for the participant. A tobacco consultation will take place before the start of treatment and six visits will be scheduled.
