The addictology unit at the Saint-Joseph Saint-Luc Hospital Center is looking for new volunteers to participate in a study on the effectiveness of electronic cigarettes in smoking cessation. This survey ECSMOKE, launched at the end of 2018 at the national level and coordinated by the Assistance publique - Hôpitaux de Paris, aims to assess the effectiveness of the electronic cigarette, as an aid to smoking cessation, with regard to the reference drug in the field : varenicline. In all, 10 French health establishments are participating in this survey, including the Saint-Joseph Saint-Luc Hospital Center.
In all 650 people will be needed for the 4 years of investigation. "These volunteers will be accompanied free of charge for 6 months by tobacco specialists. They will benefit from personalized follow-up, advice to help them quit smoking, and will receive a kit comprising an electronic cigarette and the necessary liquids (with or without nicotine), but also tablets (reference drug d help with smoking cessation or placebo) to be taken every day", wrote the hospital in a press release.
The volunteers will be randomly divided into three groups: “Placebo group ”,“ Nicotine group"And"Control group / varenicline”. To be eligible, you must: “Smoking at least 10 cigarettes per day, for at least one year","be between the ages of 18 and 70"And"be motivated to quit smoking".
